LESSONDESCRIPTION

Using a digital portable device, such as an Android or IOS (Apple) device, create a head shot that best depicts the person you want to present to the world! Take multiple photos at varying angles, and choose that one photo that you will later integrate into your Web portfolio.


You may work with a partner or alone, but each student is required to make a photo of themself.

SELFIE

A self-portrait taken by the photographer (you) while being in the frame (shot).

Natural Light Photography

LIGHT

Without light there is no photograph. It is what paint is to painting. Consider the lighter to darker tones, and highlight to shadow when composing a shot.

Model High Angle Shot

ANGLES

This is how you create interesting views and depth in your image. Consider low and high angles rather than the habitual eye-level.

Masculinity

PROPS

Consider what your action. Use PROPS (objects) to add elements of interest to your composition.

CONSIDERATIONS

SETTING

The SETTING (location) where you choose to shot is equally important. Decide on the setting before you head out.

Expression

Facial expressions (😲 😃 😢 😜), as well as your body position will translate the message you wish to send out.

Depth of view

Consider the foreground, middle ground and background in a shot. Where will you place yourself in rapport to the frame and setting.

Paint on Face

INTENTION

The intention is the objective of what you want to express and represent. It is the message that translates your idea.

GRADING CRITERIA

1. SQUARE FORMAT

1:1 format, just like a profile picture on most social media platforms.

2. NO MODIFICATIONS OF IMAGE

Place your best face forward and do not modify or change facial features or bone structures.

3. COMPOSITION

Did you consider the above listed considerations for creating your image:

  • DEPTH-OF-VIEW
