photoessay
A photo essay is a series of different images grouped under an overlying theme in order to tell a story.
Photo essays evoke emotion and offer a visual understanding and emotional atmosphere to compose a narrative without using words. However, Photo Essays are often accompanied by captions and/or descriptions to direct a viewer to an important detail(s), such as, a place, a time in history, or unique event like the COVID-19 pandemic.
LESSONDESCRIPTION
How has the COVID-19 pandemic year changed your daily routine; your life?
Negatively or positively, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced upon us change: Hockey games are no longer possible due to social distancing rules, we can no longer spend time with our elderly folk, and attending school online or in lock-down has become the norm. On the other hand, we are cooking at home more, getting better at video gaming and doing many more personal projects.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Document in three (3) photos the change(s) of habit in your life or in relation to your family, friends, work, sports, etc. Then, write a caption for each of the three photos, and upload them to your WEB PORTFOLIO (lesson 4).
NOTE: Do NOT take photos of a mask(s), barricades at the commercial centre or signage unless they are in relation to the leading theme question. If you need inspiration see the three Photo Essay examples below.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Take the time to review the lesson plan all the way down to the GRADING CRITERIA. Then plan your idea, and take the time to make many photos in order to select only the three (3) that you prefer and that express your own point of view.

story
A plot; a narrative, either true or fictitious, designed to capture and guide the interest through a single or series of images. A good story often includes emotional connection between subject and viewer.
composition
The arrangement of elements within a photograph, such as, frame, angle, leading lines, color, depth-of-field and subject.
FRAME
Framing a shot is the arrangement of visual elements within view or outside the visible frame in relation to other objects or figures. The frame directs the viewer's attention to what the photographer wants to express.
DEPTH OF FIELD
The distance between the nearest and the farthest objects within the frame. This effect gives the illusion of a three-dimensional view (3D) by having objects or figures in and out of focus: fore-ground, middle ground and background.
